Feasibility Studies of X-Ray Computed Tomography for Forensic Examination of Single Fibers

Non-destructive observations of cross-sectional shapes acrylic single fibers using X-ray computed tomography (CT) were performed. A commercial CT apparatus (Rigaku nano3DX) was employed because its micrometer-scale spatial resolution and remarkable image contrast for soft matter. We assessed two types sample support, a paraffin strip nylon string, fiber samples in terms easy handling recovery. Fixed individual loaded into narrow polyimide tube both cases, the ensured that remained field view during measurements. In could be distinguished, with circular shape one triangular other.
